چکیده

Up to 5% of the population may have an intracranial aneurysm, although many of these people are unaware of its presence. Most intracranial aneurysms remain asymptomatic, but a small proportion of them will rupture and bleed, causing life-threatening complications. Once diagnosed, treatment of aneurysms may include surgery or a minimally invasive endovascular coiling technique. As technologies improve and more aneurysms are deemed suitable for endovascular repair, there will be an increasing demand for radiologic technologists or radiologist assistants skilled in these complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Role of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and MMP inhibitors on intracranial aneurysms: a review article

Cerebrovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in the world, and about one-fourth of cerebrovascular deaths are due to ruptured cerebral aneurysms (CA). Hence it is important to find a way to reduce aneurysm formation and its subsequent morbidity and mortality. Proteolytic activity capable of lysing gelatin has been shown to be increased in aneurysm tissue and expressio...

Flow Diversion for the Treatment of Intracranial Aneurysms.

IMPORTANCE Brain aneurysms have traditionally been treated with surgical clipping or endovascular coiling techniques. With these modalities, many large or complex aneurysms remain difficult to treat. A new option, flow diversion, is now available to treat aneurysms. OBJECTIVE To summarize the clinical progression of flow diversion technology, from an experimental treatment to a commonly used ...

Endovascular strategies for vertebrobasilar dissecting aneurysms.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Dissecting vertebrobasilar aneurysms are challenging to treat, and standard treatment modalities remain controversial. We retrospectively evaluated our experience using endovascular techniques to treat these aneurysms. MATERIALS AND METHODS From February 1997 to December 2007, 42 patients with intradural vertebrobasilar dissecting aneurysms underwent endovascular treatm...

Endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms: diversity in treatment techniques of varying anatomical presentations.

We discuss and illustrate various endovascular treatment options for intracranial aneurysms, to reflect common technique used in endovascular treatment of brain aneurysm. We select five cases of various aneurysm types to show assortments of endovascular treatment (EVT) are performed. Selective catheterization of the intracranial aneurysms and endovascular treatments are technically feasible, of...

Pediatric intracranial aneurysms: new and enlarging aneurysms after index aneurysm treatment or observation.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Children with brain aneurysms may be at higher risk than adults to develop new or enlarging aneurysms in a relatively short time. We sought to identify comorbidities and angiographic features in children that predict new aneurysm formation or enlargement of untreated aneurysms. MATERIALS AND METHODS Retrospective analysis of the University of California-San Francisco Pe...
